Sara Kovach - Training Specialist B.S. Bemidji State University Minnesota Intensive Behavior Intervention Certified
I graduated from Bemidji State University in northern Minnesota with a Bachelors degree in elementary education. I also hold additional licensures in special education (learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral disorders). I have been working at North Star for over three years. I work almost exclusively with the two and three year olds in the toddler room and love it! I joined the training department in the fall of 2009 and am working hard to offer assistance to my fellow therapists in any way I can. I'm currently working on a training manual including North Star policies, teaching methods, and other information helpful towards developing programs. I live in Post Falls with my husband, Garrett, and our two children, Emma and Jack. I enjoy spending my free time with my family, reading books, and watching scary movies.

Melissa Smidt - Training Specialist
B.S. Dordt College in Iowa
Intensive Behavior Intervention Certified
I received my degree in Social Studies in 2001. I graduated from a small
Christian college in Northwest Iowa, Dordt College. I have been working
with adults and children with developmental disabilities for 9 years.
Working with kids has been my focus for the last 5 years. I have been a
part of North Star for 3 years. I have seen a lot of changes here and am
excited to see what the future will be for our school! The kids are
amazing and tons of fun to work with! It is so awesome to see how they
have all changed over the last 3 years. It is also great to be able to
bring on new kids as our school is expanding. My focus as a trainer is to
guide therapists through the paperwork process. This includes writing
plans, progress reports, creating data sheets, all the paperwork that is
involved in appeals for our kids and meeting our deadlines. I am here to
support each therapist through this process and try to make it as easy
as possible for them.
