North Star School
Preschool & Early Elementary Education
Welcome to North Star School
Kindergarten and First Grade Combination Class
Kindergarten is a critical time in a child's life. It is a time of transition from home and
informal learning into a structured educational environment. Kindergarten is when a
"little kid" becomes a "big kid." Most teachers ease this period by mixing repetition,
playful learning, and rest or snack periods to ensure that the students do not feel
overwhelmed.

Kindergarten and 1st grade prepares our students for general education.  At North
Star  our curriculum exceeds the Idaho State standards. The children learn to read
through the use of the
Houghton Mifflin curriculum. Number theory, comparisons, and
numerical representations are learned through the
Touch Math curriculum. They
develop good writing habits through the multi-sensory
Handwriting without Tears
curriculum. They learn problem solving and social skills through a variety of stories and
activities.
