Welcome to North Star School!
Intensive Behavioral Intervention (IBI)

North Star offers a complete array of services for children from ages 3 to 17, and their
families in North Idaho. Services include Intensive Behavioral Intervention Therapy,
Developmental Therapy, and Children's Service Coordination.
Our teams work closely with other providers in your child's life including their schools,
health care professionals, and other therapists. IBI therapists work with children to
develop positive behaviors and the skills they need to function in typical home and
community environments. IBI is a one-to-one service that is individualized for each
child.
How does IBI make a difference?
IBI programs focus on the child's individual strengths and needs within each area of
development. Each child's program is designed to develop functional skills and resolve
problem behaviors that will promote their independence. Generalization of new skills is
addressed through comprehensive behavior support delivered across relevant home,
school, and community settings.
Program Descriptions
Toddler Program: 12 to 24 months of age
Our Toddler program offers infant stimulation utilizing approaches drawn from the
fields of Applied Behavior Analysis and Child Development. This program is designed for
children who are “at risk” for developmental delays or an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The first twenty-four months of life are a very critical time for fostering growth in a
child's development. Parent education and support is a central focus to ensure family
members can foster their child's development in areas of need.
Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten and 1st Grade Programs 3 to 8 years of age
These programs deliver intensive behavioral intervention programs to children who
show pervasive delays across several areas of development (i.e., communication /
language, social, play, self-help, adaptive behaviors, etc..). Intervention programs are
individualized and combine a range of ABA methodologies such as highly structured
teaching practices (i.e., discrete trial teaching) and more naturalistic play based
interventions (Pivotal Response and Incidental Teaching).
Community IBI 3-17 years of age
This program is designed for children who display challenging behavior or have more
specific areas of need (e.g., social skills, coping skills) rather than pervasive deficits
across multiple developmental domains. Our program utilizes Functional Behavioral
Assessment to better understand the nature of a child's challenging behavior and
identify functional skills that will allow the child to get their needs met through more
adaptive and socially acceptable means. Therapies are done through use of the child
care center, in homes, and out in the community!
